RANIERI: "THE PASSION I SEE MAKES ME OPTIMISTIC"

"We're not in a good moment but the lads are determined to come through it. Let's get back up on centre stage"

APPIANO GENTILE - "I see what the lads are like in training. They do it with passion and commitment – they have that mentality I admired in them when I was on the opposition. We're not in a good moment but the players are determined to come through it. That fills me with optimism," declared Claudio Ranieri ahead of Inter v Chievo, which will be played at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at 15:00 tomorrow.

"I still think that Inter and AC Milan are the strongest sides, then there's Napoli, Juventus, Udinese and all the others. I think Inter will be right up there, though winning the Scudetto depends on lots of little things. Let's start by getting back up on centre stage, so that we can prove we're not past it, lacking motivation, etc. Our mindset must be that we can win the league. We don't know whether we'll actually win it or not, we can't know that now, but that has to be our aim."

Asked to comment on Fabio Capello's words about the fact he will never become the Inter coach, Ranieri said: "How could I explain to him what it means to coach this team? All I'll say is that he doesn't know what he's missing."
