ZANETTI MEETS POPE AT STADIO MEAZZA

Captain gives Holy Father a personalised Nerazzurri shirt on behalf of Inter during meeting with confirmands

MILAN - Pope Benedict XVI was at the Stadio Meazza this morning on his second day in Milan as part of the VII World Meeting of Families. Over 70,000 worshippers flocked to the stadium in San Siro for the pontiff's meeting with confirmands from the Archdiocese of Milan.

Javier Zanetti was among those paying their respects to the Holy Father during the event, organised impeccably by M-I Stadio Srl (the company that runs the Stadio Meazza). The Inter captain presented the Pope with a gift on behalf of the club: a personalised Nerazzurri shirt bearing the words 'Benedetto 16'. Franco Baresi represented AC Milan at the function.

After the blessing that concluded the meeting, the Pontiff briefly greeted Zanetti's family - his wife Paula and their children Sol, Ignacio and baby Tomas.
