DAEJEON - Poland struck twice in the opening five minutes through Nigerian-born Olsadebe and Kryszalowicz to shell shock the USA. Arena's men frantically tried to reorganise but went further behind 20 minutes into the second half when Zewlakov made it 3-0 to the Europeans.
American custodian Friedel, considered the USA's best player in the group phase, managed to prevent Poland from going 4-0 up by saving Zuraski's 75th-minute penalty. Donovan's goal on 82 minutes restored some credibility to the score for the Americans, who qualify for the last sixteen courtesy of South Korea's 1-0 win against Portugal.
